The master plan for West Austin Park was created in 2010 but it needs an update. We would like to make changes to account for desired improvements that would filter runoff from (and into) the dog park, the addition of a natural filtration barrier along 9th Street, plus new playground equipment for kids ages 7+, a seating area, a Pétanque court and improved field. Those are just a few of the improvements we would like to make, and we need your help! Please make a donation to West Austin Park improvements today.
We need to update our park master plan
First things first. Before we can get started on any improvements, or apply for grant money, we need to update the master plan of our park. This was done several years ago but it needs to be updated by a licensed landscape architect and approved by the City. We are raising funds to update the plan and the topo survey (see further below).
We need to update our topo survey
The park has not been surveyed in many years. You may wonder why another survey is needed. Land doesn't change right? Well, topography does change over time. Since the last survey was done (see below) the tennis court no longer exists but the dog park does. Trees have been planted and grown significantly. The contour of the land and stone walls in the northeast corner of the park have changed. A new pool filtration shed was added. For all these reasons, it is necessary to update the survey, especially since part of our desired improvements involve fixing grading and drainage in the field.
